How Do Recent Unemployment Stats Looked for Minnesota?
Well, we have almost survived another year. And what a year it was. So much of 2024 was centered around the Presidential election, it’s honestly kind of nice to see or hear ads and jargon filtering into every aspect of our lives.
One of the biggest topics during an election year pertains to jobs, and how many were created or how many went away. There is always fingering pointing from each side how they’ve done more to open opportunities while their opposition has only caused job loss.
Last week WalletHub released unemployment figures from the week before and they took a look at each state in America to see who fared better during that time period.
Minnesota had the 8th most people claiming unemployment for the week of November 25th. The website used key indicators to come up with their findings which include:
Change in number of claims from the week before
The difference in claims for the same week from the year before
The change in claims for the whole year versus the same time last year
and
The number of claims per 100,000 people in the labor force
Even though Minnesota had the 8th most people file for unemployment from the week before, when the factor looked at the indicator of 100,000 people in the labor force, Minnesota was 2nd.
Here’s how the states around Minnesota finished for the week of November 25th, Wisconsin finished 3rd overall and 9th per 100,000 workers, North Dakota was first in both increased number of claims and claims per 100,000 people in the workforce.
Iowa came in 4th and 6th while South Dakota was 20th in the number of increased claims and 36th per 100,000 workers.
The five states that had the lowest unemployment for the week of November 25th were Alabama, Louisiana, Hawaii, Georgia, and Ohio.
