Fitness Enthusiast Prepares for Body Building Competition After 7 Year Absence [VIDEO]

WAITE PARK -- Fitness is a growing sport and body builders around the state will meet in Minneapolis this Sunday for the Muscle Mania Great North Championships.

Competitors will compete in one of four categories at the event -- body building, figure, bikini and physique .

When Renee Schoen began in fitness 25 years ago the amount of woman participating in strength training was small. Now she says that's not the case.

"They are finally figuring out that we need to strength train as well and I've known this and been doing this for 25 years, it's just a natural part of my life," says Schoen.

Schoen is a personal trainer and runs Fitness Forever in Waite Park. She will be competing for the first time in seven years.

"Competing again really had to do a lot with my clients as well as myself," says Schoen.

She will be competing in the figure category.

"With figure you are getting a little more muscular and a good athletes body and that's the kind of body type I have," says Schoen.

She says she is competing again to show her clients, friends and family that if you work hard you can reach any goal.
