AUSTIN (AP) - A female American Legion post formed after World War II is trying to recruit new members as it nears its 80th anniversary.

Reports say that Austin's Spam Post 570 is down to only two members. Post Adjutant Eileen Chao says she hopes to add at least 10 new members by the anniversary in July.

Chao says the post is open to all woman veterans from any branch. She says prospective members don't have to be in Austin because the group plans on holding teleconferences.

The group was founded by Jay C. Hormel in 1946 and began with 20 members. The group participates in Veterans Day events, child welfare, making baskets for those in need, and visiting local hospitals.
