DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - An Ely outfitter and guide has completed an 80-mile bushwhacking trek across Quetico Provincial Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area on foot and by swimming - without a canoe.

A report says Jason Zabokrtsky completed the trip from Atikokan, Ontario, to Ely on Friday evening.

In an update on the Ely Outfitting Company Facebook page, well-wishers posted photos of him walking into town, and he thanked his friends for their support.

He left on the trip Oct. 11 and finished right on schedule.

As a BWCA guide, Zabokrtsky has traveled the region extensively by canoe and dog team. But he traveled primarily on foot and off-trail for this trip; when he needed to cross a stream or lake, he donned a dry suit and swam.
