DNR Bill Takes Aim At Invasive Species In Minnesota

ST. PAUL  (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton and the state's natural resources commissioner are unveiling legislation aimed at preventing the spread of invasive species in Minnesota.

Zebra mussels and Asian carp are among the species concerning the state's outdoors managers.

The DNR released a draft plan in early January that was developed with the help of a citizens committee that met last year.

That plan called for additional conservation officers to inspect boats and other vehicles that spread invasive species. It also would have increased fines for violations and worked to educate the public on the threat.

It's not clear if any or all of those ideas will be part of the legislation offered Wednesday.
