Dayton Offers List of Services to be Taxed

ST. PAUL (AP) - More details are coming from Gov. Mark Dayton's administration about his proposed sales tax expansion.

The Revenue Department late Thursday presented its most detailed look yet at services that would fall under the tax.

Among them: Tattoos, wedding planning, dating services, lawyer bills, golf lessons, manicures, investment advice, interior decorating, snow-plowing and architectural services.

The agency also put out a list of things that would skate by without a tax as they do now: textbooks and computers for school use, prescription medications and eyeglasses, building materials for residences of disabled veterans, mining production materials and residential heating fuel were just a flavor.

Dayton's bid to expand the sales tax comes with promise of a 20 percent cut to the overall rate, making them subject to a 5.5 percent tax.
