Yesterday was Holocaust Remembrance Day, and National Geographic explorer Chris Nicola was at St. Cloud State University speaking about 38 individuals who survived the genocide by hiding in caves.

Nicola has explored and researched the Ukranian caves for nearly 20 years. He completed a book in 2007 detailing the journey, including his newly formed relationships with the still-living survivors.

He says the experience has been life-changing.

During the talk, Nicola showed photos of the 77-mile cave network as well as photos of the survivors.

He says he was pleased to speak in St. Cloud, and is headed next to Los Angeles.
