Minnesota Timberwolves

Former Viking defensive end Everson Griffin is now playing with the Detroit Lions. He played 10 seasons in Minnesota with the Vikings where he was coached by Mike Zimmer. Zimmer was quoted as calling Griffin a "good" player. Griffin took exception to that preferring to be called "great".

The NFL trade deadline is today at 3pm (CT). Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says the Vikings are unlikely to make a trade before the deadline. The players they could deal if their asking price is met are tight end Kyle Rudolph and safety Anthony Harris.

He says the Vikings will likely play without 3 of their top 4 corner backs. Cam Dantzler was placed on the Covid-19 reserve list, and both Holton Hill and Mike Hughes are unlikely to play due to injury.

More and more successful NFL teams are led by quarterbacks who run often as part of their game. QBs like Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have all had success this year mixing in rushing yards to go along with throwing the football.

The Timberwolves won the NBA Draft lottery Thursday night. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says the Wolves will likely keep the pick and should take 6'8 guard/forward LaMelo Ball. He says Ball has high end potential but will need to work on his shot to become an elite talent.

For the second time in franchise history the Minnesota Timberwolves will have the number one pick in the NBA draft.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have not had the best franchise history to say the least. Alex Svejkovsky joined Dave Overlund on WJON's "Hang Up and Listen" Monday afternoon to select players for the best possible team of Timberwolves.

Kevin Garnett will be headed to the Hall of Fame but is still bitter with Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. Garnett spent 14 of his 21 seasons with the Wolves but because of a soured relationship with Taylor the Timberwolves will not be retiring Garnett's jersey and giving fans a chance to celebrate his time in Minnesota anytime soon.

Bud Grant and Tom Kelly stand above the rest but there are many others who carved out a good career and lots of success like Clem Haskins, Ron Gardenhire, Flip Saunders, Jacques Lemaire, Denny Green and Jerry Burns.
