FOLEY -- Families will be gathering for the Thanksgiving Holiday this weekend and the sheriff in Benton County is asking you to be thinking about keeping your kids safe if they venture outdoors.

Troy Heck says be reminding your kids to stay away from any newly formed ice because it isn't safe yet. Heck says sometimes when groups of kids get together, they don't make the best decisions.  He says a friendly reminder to kids will go a long way in keeping everyone safe this holiday weekend.

The DNR recommends four inches of good, clear ice to walk on, five inches or more for snowmobiles and ATVs, 8-12 inches of ice for cars and small trucks and 12-15 inches of ice for larger vehicles.
