Aunt Charged After Boy, 7, Brings Gun to Minnesota School
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a St. Paul woman with leaving a handgun where her 7-year-old nephew found it and brought it to school, where the gun discharged last week.
Thirty-four-year-old Breanna Jones was charged Tuesday with one gross misdemeanor count of endangerment of a child by firearm access.
Jones allegedly left the unlocked gun in a plastic bedside drawer. Her nephew found the revolver and took it to Crossroads Elementary, where another student accidentally fired it in a classroom.
No one was hurt, but the bullet nearly struck a boy in the foot.
Reports say Jones told police she recently had purchased the gun for home protection.
Jones is due in court Dec. 16. Court records do not list a defense attorney who could comment on her behalf.
