Yesterday, I made some predictions for the 86th Annual Academy Award nominations. Now, here’s the actual list. Let’s see how far off I was.

My prediction for the winner is highlighted in bold.

Best Picture

American Hustle
Captain Phillips
Dallas Buyer’s Club
Gravity
Her
Nebraska
Philomena
12 Years a Slave
The Wolf of Wall Street

There are only nine best picture nominees this year. A few years ago they went to ten, up from the five they usually had. I think Mandella: A Long Walk to Freedom got robbed here.

Best Director

David O. Russell – American Hustle
Alphoso Curaon – Gravity
Alexander Payne – Nebraska
Steve McQueen – 12 Years a Slave
Martin Scorcese – The Wolf of Wall Street

I had Paul Greengrass with the nod for Captain Phillips, but Alexander Payne took his place.

Best Actor

Christian Bale – American Hustle
Bruce Dern – Nebraska
Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street
Chiwetel Ejiofor – 12 Years a Slave
Matthew McConaughey – Dallas Buyers Club

I'm predicting Chiwetel Ejiofor for the win, but Matthew McConaughey may shock in this category. My prediction had Tom Hanks and Idris Alba on this list, but again, Mandella: A Long Walk to Freedom got snubbed. In their place, we have Bruce Dern and I had Christian Bale as an alternate contender, so I wasn't too far off.

Best Actress

Amy Adams – American Hustle
Cate Blanchette – Blue Jasmine
Sandra Bullock – Gravity
Judi Dench – Philomena
Meryl Streep – August: Osage County

I'm not going to break my arm patting myself on the back, but I nailed this category. Amy Adams took home the Golden Globe, but I think Judi Dench may edge her out. If Meryl gets it because she begs for it, she shouldn't be nominated anymore. I'm really sick of her.

Best Supporting Actor

Barkhad Abdi – Captain Phillips
Bradley Cooper – American Hustle
Michael Fassbender – 12 Years a Slave
Jonah Hill – The Wolf of Wall Street
Jered Leto – Dallas Buyer’s Club

I had David Bruhl in for Best Supporting Actor, with Barkhad Abdi as a possible surprise contender. I think Jered Leto and his man bun may repeat for the win.

Best Supporting Actress

Sally Hawkins – Blue Jasmine
Jennifer Lawrence – American Hustle
Lupita Noyong’o – 12 Years a Slave
Julia Roberts – August: Osage County
June Squibb - Nebraska

I had Scarlett Johnanssen in this category because I couldn't really think of any other women at the top of my mind, but I forgot about June Squibb. Jennifer Lawrence took home the Golden Globe, but I think that Lupita Noyong'o may take the Oscar.

The Academy Awards will be handed out March 2.
