MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis fire officials say six people including a baby were hurt when they jumped from a window to escape an apartment fire.

The fire broke out Tuesday in south Minneapolis and burned through the first two floors of the three-story building.

Assistant Minneapolis Fire Chief Bryan Tyner says the six victims were hospitalized with injuries and possible smoke inhalation. Tyner says one adult was in critical condition with injuries suffered while jumping from the second-floor window.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Tyner says it was "hard to say" where the fire originated, because "there was fire on the first and second floor."

Firefighters brought the blaze under control about 40 minutes after it was reported.
