ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Authorities have charged a 12-year-old boy with bringing a gun to a St. Paul school.

Reports say the student from Linwood Monroe Arts Plus is charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.

Sgt. Mike Ernster says the gun came to light Wednesday after the 12-year-old asked another student whether he wanted to see a gun in his backpack while they were in the bathroom. The other student said he did not. But students reported the gun to school officials, who called police.

The school was put on lockdown for 15 minutes while staff and police searched for the gun. They found it in a locker.

Ernester says it appears the boy brought the gun from home.
