Xcel Energy To Meet New Rules For Greenhouse Gases
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Xcel Energy says it's well-positioned to meet the new federal standards for greenhouse gas emissions.
The Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday it will design rules over the next year that will say how much greenhouse gas pollution can come from each power plant and oil refinery in the country.
Xcel Energy has switched several of its coal-fired plants to natural gas already, and spokesman Steve Roalstad says the company will continue to ratchet down its pollution. He says the company is well on its way toward meeting its goal of reducing its carbon emissions by 15 percent by 2020.
Some Republicans in Congress want to restrict the EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gases.
