U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer joined officials from the U.S. Postal Service and Cold Spring Police Department in a dedication ceremony to rename the Cold Spring Post Office after slain officer Tom Decker.
The head of the U.S. Postal Services is pleading with Congress not to thwart his plan to cut Saturday mail as a way to save money. But postal workers unions are criticizing the plan as illegal and financially questionable.
The financially struggling U.S. Postal Service says it plans to stop delivering mail on Saturdays, but continue delivering packages six days a week. In an announcement scheduled for later Wednesday, the service is expected to say the cut, beginning in August, would mean a cost saving of about $2 billion annually.

The U.S. Postal Service has finalized it's decision to close the Waite Park Distribution Center. Spokesman Pete Nowacki says the move it contingent on proposed revisions to their services, such as first-class mail going from next day delivery to taking two or three days.
The U.S. Postal Service's plan to close 252 mail processing facilities and cut 28,000 jobs by the end of next year faces big obstacles. Waite Park's mail processing facility is one of four plants in Minnesota earmarked for closure.
Postal rates will go up in April, but the cost of sending the basic letter will remain the same. The Postal Service said Thursday that most rates will go up on April 17 under a formula that allows the agency to increase prices within the rate of inflation.
