St. Joseph was named Monday as the safest city in Minnesota in a report issued by Safewise, a home security and safety company. SafeWise chose the safest cities in Minnesota by reviewing the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2014, along with population data.

The St. Joseph City Council will begin the bidding process to build a new city government center extension on the future community center site (currently Colts Academy).

After rejecting the idea earlier this month, the St. Joseph city council approved the hiring of a community development director on Monday night. The director will work on economic development and planning for the city. They will also develop marketing strategies and meetings for the EDA.

St. Joseph voted against adding a full-time community development director to its city staff on Monday. A community development consultant has been working for the city one day a week, but recently resigned for a new job.

Refuse haulers in St. Joseph will soon be required to pay a permit fee to collect trash and recycling. A Public Hearing was held during tonight's (Monday) city council meeting to discuss a change to the current ordinance.

After months of preparation, Bad Habit Brewing in downtown St. Joseph is set to have its grand opening on Saturday. The brewery remodeled a space in the Mill Stream Shops at 15 East Minnesota Street.
