Fifteen years after it opened, the popular Lake Wobegon Regional Trail in central Minnesota is showing signs of age. Local officials are searching for ways to pay for fixes. They're considering user fees and also have their eyes on the state's Legacy Fund.
The new extension of the Beaver Island Trail held its grand opening today (Tuesday) with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The new trail section is over a mile long, stretching from 33rd Street South to River Bluffs Regional Park. It also includes a trail head shelter located behind FedEx.
Watch for maintenance crews out on the Lake Wobegon Trail. Portions of the trail will be closed sporadically, throughout the remainder of the summer for pavement repairs.
You'll notice a lot of extra runners on the Lake Wobegon Trail tomorrow (Saturday). The annual Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon starts at 7:00 a.m. at Holdingford High school.
A group of community leaders gathered at the River's Edge Convention Center today (Thursday) to talk about the priorities for the area. The 3rd annual Greater St. Cloud Community Priorities Meeting identified a handful of new projects to work on.
After nearly 38 years of developing parks and trails for Stearns County, Parks Director Chuck Wocken is calling it a career. Wocken will retire in February.
