January is Human Trafficking awareness month. Waite Park Police Chief and Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall joined me on WJON today. The two discussed their progress in identifying and prosecuting the traffickers, victims and buyers.
Several local law enforcement agencies are teaming up, with the help of a state grant, to fight sex trafficking. The newly formed "Central Minnesota Sex Trafficking Investigative Task Force" has been awarded a $313,000 grant to fund the partnership.
The first candidate has officially announced his intention to run for Stearns County Sheriff. Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says he will be campaigning for the job, which is up for election in November.
