Suspect In Officer Involved Shooting Charged With Six Felonies
ST. CLOUD -- Authorities have charged a St. Cloud man with six felonies after an officer involved shooting Monday night.
According to the criminal complaint officers were called to the 7100 block of Northwood Lane in St. Cloud for a domestic assault.
Police say when they arrived and rang the doorbell 37-year-old Lazaro Diaz, of St. Cloud, jumped out a back window armed with a handgun and tried to flee. Diaz fired at least three rounds at police, before a Stearns County Deputy shot Diaz at least twice in the leg.
He was taken to St. Cloud hospital for his injuries before being taken to the Stearns County Jail.
Diaz is charged with one count each of felony 1st degree assault -- used of deadly force against an offer, possession of a dangerous weapon, domestic assault by strangulation, and violation of a no-contact order. He also faces two counts of felony domestic assault.
Diaz also has previous felony convictions for assault and drug possession.
