St. Cloud Residents Encouraged to Submit Poems for Sidewalk Poetry Contest [AUDIO]
ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud Arts Commission is now accepting poetry submissions for their third annual St. Cloud Sidewalk Poetry Contest.
Five local residents will have a chance to have their work engraved into a sidewalk throughout St. Cloud for all to see.
St. Cloud Arts Commission Coordinator Jennifer Penzkover says the idea is modeled after artist Marcus Young who started it in St. Paul.
The St. Cloud Arts Commission are accepting poem entries now until 2:30 p.m. May 5th. A panel of community members and writers will choose the winners.
Penzkover says poets of all ages who are St. Cloud residents are able to submit their work, but must follow some guidelines.
Winners will be announced on the city's website on May 19th. Selected poems will be engraved into the sidewalks throughout the city this summer.
You can see the work from the 2012 winners along 25th Avenue South and along 10th and 11th avenues North. The 2013 winners can be found on the sidewalks of ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th street North.
Poems can be submitted by mail, Attn: Poetry in Sidewalks, 400 Second St. S, St. Cloud, MN 56301. Or emailed to jennifer.penzkover@ci.stcloud.mn.us.
