ST. CLOUD - A new Comprehensive Plan for St. Cloud includes ideas for development along the Mississippi River, a new bridge over the river on the south end of town, and the development of the Liberty Square parking lot downtown.

Community Development Director Matt Glaesman says the plan also includes creating an artisan district on the east side. The new Comprehensive Plan includes five catalyst sites for redevelopment: Along Cooper Avenue, the Liberty Square parking lot, the Swan parking lot near St. Mary's Cathedral, a site near Lake George, and the west bank of the Mississippi River front.

Glaesman says they've been working on the Comprehensive Plan for almost two years. The city has updated the plan every 10 years for the past 50 years. He says many of the proposals from the previous Comprehensive Plan 10 years ago have come to fruition.

We had Lake George, we had a west downtown library, we had keeping the law enforcement center downtown, expansion of the Civic Center, a lot of those kinds of things that were just visions early on in 200, those things have happened now.

If you want to know more, an open house will be held tonight (Wednesday) at 6:00 p.m. at St. Cloud City Hall.

Eventually a priority list will be put together to rank the specific projects.

The plan still needs approval from the Planning Commission and the City Council.
