We know how to cook, clean, work, coach a soccer team, coordinate schedules and raise children all at the same time, but here are some other skills we women should master.

Change a Tire

Using Fix-a-Flat doesn't count. I'm talking jacking up the car, pulling off the lugnuts, and plugging a hole. You don't have to go at NASCAR pit crew speed, but you should know how to do it. Here's an excellent how-to video and I'm sure you can go to any auto parts store and ask for flat tire fixing tools and they can point you in the right direction. And no one is going to judge you if you keep a can of Fix-a-Flat in your trunk just for backup.

Change Your Oil

The more you do it, the easier it gets and you can save money in the process. Checking your owner's manual will tell you what kind of filter and oil your car needs. Then watch this video from Eric the Car Guy for a step by step tutorial. You should still see your mechanic for the more advanced oil changes that require tire rotation and air filter changes. Your owner's manual will tell you how often this should be done.

Tell a Joke

It should be slightly cheeky, unexpected but appropriate for the company you're in. You shouldn't tell a joke that starts with "There once was a man from Nantucket" at a child's birthday party, but if you came across a funny one on the Laffy Taffy wrapper, knock yourself out.

Master a Signature Dish

It doesn't have to be Julia Child like, but it should be something that's easy enough to whip up and pleases a crowd. Here's my secret signature dish. Add mashed potatoes and corn with a salad and you've got yourself a meal!

Look Good in a Photo

Most women I know hate how they look in photos; myself included. Here's my signature pose: Lean just your head forward and slightly tilted down. Look up through your eyelashes and angle your head to show off your jawline and keep your arms out slightly away from your body. If it's a full length shot, do the thing with your head, then put one leg in front of the other and stand up straight and stick your chest out. Place one hand just under your bust. That's the narrowest part of your waist, so make that the focal point. If all of this sounds awkward, just look at any photo of any female celebrity on the red carpet.

Negotiation

For a raise, house, car or getting your kids to eat their peas although bribery seems to be the key with that last one. Most of us feel sick at the thought of asking for a lower price or higher pay rate, but be confident and make your case. There are a lot of other houses and cars out there and Realtors and car dealers know that, so don't be afraid to haggle.
