BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) - Police in Indianapolis say quarterback Dominique Corder of Central Lakes Community College in Brainerd has been shot and killed.

Police spokeswoman Linda Jackson says the 20-year-old was shot in the abdomen Saturday about 12:40 a.m. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Corder led the Raiders to this year's state community college title at the Valley of the Sun Bowl in Arizona. He was named NJCAA All-American and 2010 MCAC Conference MVP.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Corder talking to someone inside an SUV before the shooting. The vehicle fled the scene.

Central Lakes coach Greg Medeck released a statement calling Corder a "young man of great character." Athletic director Jim Russell says Corder always gave his best effort on and off the field.

Police have no suspects.
