STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) - A 19-year with a history of mental health issues has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for the random shooting of a popular teacher.

Bailey Garcia, of Pine Springs, pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree murder in the death of Park High School art teacher and Willnerie bar owner David Frigaard in Mahtomedi in January.

Garcia told the judge at his sentencing Friday that he's been going to Alcoholics Anonymous and Bible study to make himself a better person. He said he prays for Frigaard and his family every day.

Garcia previously told investigators he had been drinking following an argument with his father when he drove to the intersection to "shoot a few deer." Instead, he saw Frigaard in an approaching pickup truck and fired, killing Frigaard instantly.
