Mother’s Boyfriend Charged In Olivia Toddler Death
OLIVIA, Minn. (AP) - Renville County authorities have charged an Olivia man in the death of his girlfriend's 19-month-old daughter.
Sergio Turrubiates (tur-oh-by-EH'-tehz) is charged with second-degree unintentional murder in the death of Tiana (tee-AH'-nuh) Moore.
According to the complaint, Turrubiates was alone with the girl while the mother was at work last Wednesday.
When the mother returned home, Turrubiates told her the girl would not wake up. The girl died at a hospital two days later.
An autopsy found the girl died of a traumatic head injury. The suspect, who turned 20 on Tuesday, told the mother he had been pulling Tiana around the apartment on a blanket when she fell off and hit her head. He also told an investigator the girl fell off a bed and struck an end table.
