ST. CLOUD -- A cool, wet spring has delayed the start of the mosquito season in Minnesota, but Metropolitan Mosquito Control District Executive Director Stephen Manweiler says it won't be long now. He says by the end of this week, the pests should be returning in full force.

Manweiler says you can help avoid the pests by emptying containers with standing water and using repellents.

The good news is mosquito-related diseases don't typically appear until later in the summer.

Manweiler says avoiding the outdoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active is also a good tip in avoiding the pests.

Manweiler says you can visit the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District website for additional information on mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.
