The number of West Nile virus cases is rising in Minnesota after a four-year lull.
The Minnesota Department of Health says 18 cases have been reported in Minnesota this year, and a number of people have been hospitalized.
The Minnesota heat may be starting to subside, but a peskier weather-related problem is getting worse — mosquitoes. The last few months have been good for mosquitoes: moist breeding grounds plus warm temperatures.
Normally, we'd be starting to swat those pesky mosquitoes about now, but thanks to a cooler than normal spring, the mosquito populations are hatching later than normal.
