For many parents, finding things for their kids to do during the summer is an ongoing challenge. And for a lot of those parents, they would like to be able to have their kids learn from the activity in some way.

For those in the Rice community, you’ve got an opportunity just like what I described above. Something to get your kids involved in that will help them develop.

Oh, and did I mention this is free.

The Rice Police Department along with the Foley Police Department, and Benton County Sheriff’s Department is participating in the Police Athletic League, or PAL, to have their officers get involved with kids on a more personal level.

There are several goals of this program, first, as I alluded to in the previous sentence, it’s about letting your kids get to know police officers as people. They’ll see the officers out of uniform, which will hopefully build better relationships in the community.

Having kids develop a trust in police officers at an early age can carry many benefits for your family in the years to come.

This is also an opportunity for your kids to be active by participating in different sporting activities. There will be different sporting activities each night for kids to select from. There will also be arts and crafts as well.

And another goal is for the parents to be able to have time to answer emails, make phone calls or just plan for the next week while the kids are playing and having fun.

And again, these events are free.

The Police Athletic League in Rice will hold events on Thursdays from July 18th – August 29th from 6pm-7:30 Lions Park in Rice. There will be no PAL on Thursday Augusts 1st, and there will be a picnic on August 29th.
