UNDATED -- Jews around the world begin celebrating Hanukkah today (Wednesday).

Hanukkah is the festival of rededication in the Jewish faith. However, it's not considered a major Jewish holiday. It's religious significance is not as important as Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, or Passover. It just receives more attention from non-Jews because of it's close proximity to Christmas.

On the first night of Hanukkah a candle is placed at the far right in the menorah. And another candle is added each night during the holiday.

The traditional colors of blue and white are used because they are the colors of the Israeli flag.

Traditional foods eaten during Hanukkah are fried foods and jelly doughnuts.

Hanukkah starts at sunset tonight.
