Former Minneapolis Mayor Rybak is Hospitalized
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak was taken to a hospital after cross-country skiing.
According to Allina Health spokesman Tim Burke, Rybak was skiing at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis when he experienced a shortness of breath and chest pains Saturday afternoon.
Burke says the 58-year-old was skiing for just less than 8 miles when the pain struck. Rybak sent to Abbott Northwestern Hospital by ambulance and hospitalized at about 1 p.m.
Burke says he was taken to the cardiac catheterization lab where doctors "performed an angioplasty and inserted two stents.
Rybak was reported to be resting comfortably and visiting with family.
Rybak did not seek re-election to a fourth term. Betsy Hodges was sworn in as the new mayor Thursday.
