WAITE PARK -- The Waite Park Fire Department has three open volunteer firefighter positions.

They expect as many as eight positions to become available this year. A large portion of department staff are nearing their minimum 20 year retirement age for benefits.

They offer a pension of $2,050 per year of service. After 20 years with the department firefighters become fully vested. Fire Chief, Jim Aleshire has been with the fire department for about 25 years.

He says they encourage community members to get involved with the department.

Aleshire says the staff turnover will be an adjustment but he thinks it's good to get new people in the department.

Volunteers are on-call 24 hours a day with other minor time commitments each month. The application deadline is April 30th.
