Dayton to Release Revised Budget Next Week
ST. PAUL (AP) -- Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton hasn't decided whether to keep a proposed sales tax expansion intact but says he expects to announce a revised budget early next week.
Dayton said Wednesday that he's consulting with senior administration officials about how to reconfigure his recommendations. An updated economic forecast showed a more than $400 million improvement, which has lowered Minnesota's projected deficit considerably.
The Democratic governor has proposed a range of tax increases. It includes an overhauled sales tax that lowers the rate charged but expands it to a range of previously untaxed services. Businesses have complained the burden falls unfairly on them.
Dayton says he's opposed to the idea of taxing consumers for more items but exempting businesses. He says it should be "all or nothing" on the sales tax plan.
