Coming Soon To A Brewery Near You: Sunday Growler Sales

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesotans will soon be able to take home bottles of beer from their favorite craft breweries on Sundays.

Gov. Mark Dayton signed a package of liquor regulation changes into law Friday including legal Sunday growler sales. Local governments still have to approve the change before breweries can start selling the 64-ounce bottles.

The bill also allows bars to open at 8 a.m. on Sundays - two hours earlier than in previous years.

It's a small but important victory for proponents of scrapping the Sunday liquor sales ban altogether.

Attempts to remove that ban on the House and Senate floor were shot down again this year. But those amendments failed by narrower margins than the blowout losses from years past.

Minnesota is one of 12 states that still ban liquor stores from opening on Sundays.
