Area Kids Go Low Tech During Regional Chess Tournament [AUDIO]
WAITE PARK -- In our technological world of wii, i-pods, and smart phones it's nice to go back to the standards once in a while. Just over 100 kids in grades K - 6 will unplug their gadgets tomorrow (Saturday) and play some good old fashioned chess -- on a real board.
The Regional Chess Tournament will be held at Discovery school in Waite Park. Resources Training and Solutions spokeswoman Sandra Cordie says it's a game that exercises their brains.
Kids from throughout Central Minnesota and the Northern Twin Cities suburbs have signed-up.
There will also be extra boards set-up for the kids to play pick-up games.
She says Resource Training and Solutions has been hosting the tournament for over 15 years now, and the event itself goes back long before that.
