ST. CLOUD -- A national effort to promote personal savings is taking place this week. The effort is part of America Saves Week -- which runs now through Saturday. Organizations are using the opportunity to promote good saving practices and preparations for retirement.

The Head of Institutional Retirement at Wells Fargo, Laurie Nordquist, says this is an opportunity for Americans to focus on improving their personal bank accounts.

Participating organizations are offering tips on how to improve your bank account and what to do to prepare for the future. Nordquist says people need to start saving early and often.

Institutions are trying to use new technology -- such as social media and web conferencing -- to get the message out to customers. Nordquist says their goal is to reach as many people as possible.

America Saves Week was created in 2007 and is organized by the American Savings Education Council.
