EAST GRAND FORKS, (AP) - American Crystal Sugar says it's in ongoing talks with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration to resolve some alleged safety violations at the East Grand Forks plant.

OSHA records show inspectors found 26 violations during a routine inspection earlier this year, and 22 were classified as serious. American Crystal is contesting some of the citations.

American Crystal executive Brian Ingulsrud says the inspections and citations are a normal part of business, though the company does not always agree with the findings.

OSHA cited the company for its process on handling hazardous chemicals, carbon monoxide monitoring and wiring standards, among other things. The alleged violations add up to more than $49,000 in fines.
