SAUK RAPIDS - Nine people escaped an early morning house fire in Sauk Rapids.

Fire Chief Jason Fleming says his department was called to a duplex at about 4:40 a.m. at 5012 15th Street Northeast Wapacada Road. He says the kitchen in the lower level has significant flame damage.

The most likely cause is a cooking fire.

The upper level sustained heavy smoke damage.

The American Red Cross is helping a family of seven with shelter, clothing, food and support after this mornings fire.
