BUFFALO, Minn. (AP) - The son of an Elk River police officer convicted of killing his father and brother in Wright County has been sentenced to 61 years in prison.

Christopher Besser, of St. Michael, pleaded guilty earlier to two counts of second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of 49-year-old Todd Besser and 27-year-old Blake Besser last May.

A criminal complaint says Besser told investigators he was fed up with his father's expectations of him and shot him in the head during an argument and then shot his brother in the stomach. Besser called 911 from a Kwik Stop in Monticello to report the shooting and told a dispatcher he "just lost it."

Reports say the 22-year-old Besser issued an emotional apology in a packed Wright County courtroom Friday and asked for forgiveness.
