When the new Sauk Rapids City Hall opens later this year it will not have officers from the Minnesota Department of Corrections in the building. The DOC contacted the city staff and said they would be staying where they're at for now.
The Sauk Rapids City Council will hold their first meeting in their temporary home this (Monday) evening. Among the items on the agenda will be approving the purchase agreement for the property of the future city hall.
Workers at Sauk Rapids' City Hall are packing boxes and getting ready to vacate the building. The employees will be moving their offices starting on Wednesday.
The new Sauk Rapids City Hall will not be built in the city's downtown. The City Council voted 4-1 on Monday night to buy what's known as the Hoppe property for site of the next city hall. That would put it near the Post Office, and also adjacent to other city facilities.
