SAUK RAPIDS -- The new Sauk Rapids City Hall will not be built in the city's downtown.  The City Council voted 4-1 on Monday night to buy what's known as the Hoppe property for site of the next city hall.  That would put it near the Post Office, and also adjacent to other city facilities.

At 3.27 acres it's the largest of the of the three final sites.  The purchase price is listed at $660,000, with additional costs for demolition and prep work bringing the total to $685,000.

Council members who voted in favor of the site like it's central location, it's more scenic setting, and the idea of creating a more unified campus.

Brad Gunderson is the lone vote against the site, he favor the Rice property on South Benton Drive because it was the cheapest piece of land.
