Titans Beat Vikings In Preseason Opener

The Vikings lost 14-3 Saturday night in their preseason opener at Tennessee against the Titans. Minnesota trailed 14-0 at halftime and scored its only points on a 37-yard field goal from Ryan Longwell. Donavan McNabb started the game and was 6-11 passing for 40 yards. Joe Webb was 4-8 passing for 45 yards and he ran for 33 yards on 5 attempts. Rookie Christian Ponder played most of the 2nd half and was 8-13 passing for 84 yards.

River Bats Win 3rd Straight Against Moon Dogs

The River Bats won their 3rd straight game Friday night 3-1 over the Mankato Moon Dogs at Joe Faber Field. The Bats scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 6th innings. Andy Henkemeyer, Jeremy Banks, C.J. Gillman, and Ronald Sucre each had 2 hits for St. Cloud. Andy Urban threw 8 1/3 innings with 4 hits and 1 run allowed to get the win for the Bats.

Twins Blow Lead And Game At Cleveland

The Twins made a pair of defensive mistakes in their 3-2 loss at Cleveland Friday night. Minnesota took a 2-1 lead in the 8th inning when Tsuyoshi Nishioka singled in Danny Valencia from 2nd base. Nishioka made an error in the bottom of the 8th before Ben Revere failed to catch a looping liner that score the game-winning run. Justin Morneau and Alexi Casilla returned to the lineup but Michael Cuddyer sat out the game after sustaining a neck injury during batting practice.

Border Cats Hand River Bats 4-3 Loss

Thunder Bay defeated the River Bats 4-3 Saturday night. Carlos Lopez was 3-3 with a homerun and 2 RBIs for the Bats in the loss. Jeremy Banks added 2 hits and 1 RBI for St. Cloud. Thunder Bay broke the 3-all tie with a run off Bats' closer Travis Unthank in the 9th inning. Austen Wisroth threw 7 innings with 9 hits and 3 runs allowed (1 earned).

White Sox Beat Twins Again 6-1

The Twins lost their 2nd straight game 6-1 at home to the Chicago White Sox Saturday night. Chicago broke the scoreless tie in the 5th inning with 2 runs and Minnesota responded with a Danny Valencia RBI single in the 6th to cut the lead to 2-1. The White Sox scored 4 combined runs in the 9th inning off Glen Perkins and Joe Nathan to put the game out of reach. Michael Cuddyer, Delmon Young and Matt Tolbert each had 2 hits for the Twins.

Vikings Release McKinnie

The Vikings have released veteran left tackle Bryant McKinnie this afternoon. He showed up at training camp overweight and out of shape. The Vikings placed him on the non football injury list Monday. They also signed free agent left tackle Charlie Johnson Monday and he'll likely replace McKinnie at left tackle. Johnson started 27 games the last 2 seasons in Indianapolis.

The Vikings signed recent released receiver Michael Jenkins to a 3-year contract. Jenkins was recently released by the Atlanta Falcons. New Viking offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave coached Jenkins in Atlanta before coming to Minnesota.

The River Bats edged the Duluth Huskies 3-2 at Joe Faber Field Friday night. St. Cloud scored 2 first inning runs and added a run in the 8th inning. Andy Henkemeyer was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Carlos Lopez drove in 1 run. Andy Urban threw 8 2/3 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed and gets the win.
