The Minnesota Wild will face the Central Division champion Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the NHL playoffs. The Wild won the first of two wild-card spots to earn a playoff spot for the fourth time in team history.

The Avalanche earned the division title on the last day of the season, thanks in large part to a season-ending seven game losing streak by the St. Louis Blues. Colorado finished the season 52-22-8, good for 112 points.

The Wild locked up the wild card last week with a win over Boston at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota finished with a 43-27-12 record and 98 points.

Colorado won the regular season series with the Wild 3-1-1, but Minnesota sports a 13-3-3 record in its last 19 games in Denver.
