Foley Public School’s had their very first time participation in the national event, International Walk to School Day.

The event stresses the benefits of walking and being healthy, and also the importance of getting kids safely to school. For Foley students, walking to school also means crossing Highway 23.

The event leaders coordinated sites that parents could drop their students off at. Organizers and volunteers then lead the walk to the school, and approximately 70 students participated in the event.  Parents, teachers and principals joined in the fun.

Not only that...City Council members, the mayor, public health educators, the city administrator, local law enforcement and city staff all came together with the kids, and helped them walk safely to school. Local and state law enforcement was also there, assisting getting the kids safely across highway 23.

The Students then each received a goody bag for their participation.
