Vikings Beat Lions, Almost Earn Shutout
The Minnesota Vikings nearly earned a shutout against the Detroit Lions for the first time since 1993 at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Minnesota dominated the first half of the game. Mid-way through the opening quarter, the Vikings scored the first touchdown of the game, complete with extra point, to take a 7-0 lead over Detroit. Then in the second quarter, Minnesota added a field goal and a second touchdown to control the game 17-0 at the break.
The Vikings started the second half with the ball, but neither team was able to get much offense going in the third quarter. The Vikings scored their second field goal of the game in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 20-0.
The Lions got on the board with just over two minutes remaining in the game. The touchdown prevented a shutout but was not enough for a comeback. Minnesota won it 20-7.
Kirk Cousins completed 24 of 30 for 242 yards, one touchdown, and a sack. Stefon Diggs had 6 catches for 92 yards. Olabisi Johnson had one catch for 9 yards and a touchdown. Dalvin Cook had two catches and 18 carries for a total of 75 yards and a touchdown.
Danielle Hunter tallied 3 sacks to move to 53 career sacks. Dan Bailey hit two of two field-goal attempts, and two of two extra-point attempts.
The Vikings improve to 9-4 and will travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers on Sunday. Pre-game starts at 2:00 p.m. on AM 1240 and 95.3 FM WJON.
