Unofficial Start to Summer Brings the Opening of a MN Water Park
Yes, we all know that right now we are still in the season of Spring. That lasts (on the calendar) until the 20th of June. BUT, we, as Minnesotans, consider Memorial Weekend as the unofficial start of Summer. That lasts until Labor Day.

So, it is fitting that a Minnesota water park would open for the unofficial start of Summer. I am talking about Soak City located within Valleyfair in Shakopee.
If you are looking for something to do this coming holiday weekend, that is definitely an option. Looks like the weather is going to be partly cloudy (for the most part) with highs in the mid 70s, so why not take advantage of a water park. Honestly, it's not warm enough for me, but kids don't seem to care about that, they just generally love being in the water and having fun with all the activities that a water park has to offer.
If you do happen to plan on going to Valleyfair and also to Soak City, there has been a chaperone policy update.
From a Press Release:
...all guests ages 15 years old or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old to be admitted to or remain in the park after 4:00 p.m. to close on most operating days.
The chaperone policy will be expanded on the following days to guests ages 15 years old or younger requiring an accompanying chaperone of at least 21 years old for the full duration of the day:
- May 27
- June 16 and 17
- July 4
There are some deals on admission to Valleyfair this weekend for active and retired military including free tickets May 24th through the 27th. Family members can take advantage of discounted tickets on those days as well.
If you haven't ever been to Soak City, but you have been to Valleyfair, this might be the weekend to check it out. Soak City includes a wave pool, water slides, a lazy river and splash stations. You can also rent a cabana for the day, if you'd like. Great place for a family to congregate, grab some lunch or just take a nap if you'd like.
Some other events happening at Valleyfair this weekend:
- Purchase select Soak City hats for $10 all weekend.
- Saturday: Boston Beer Company beverage sampling (12 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
- Sunday: Indeed Brewing beverage sampling (12 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
Let's welcome summer!
