U.S. Marshals Take Over Duluth Shop For Selling Synthetic Drugs

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - Federal marshals have taken over the now-closed Duluth head shop whose owner was convicted of selling synthetic drugs.

The marshals were at the Last Place on Earth building Thursday. "No trespassing" signs are posted on the store's front windows.

Last week a federal judge issued a preliminary order of forfeiture on the property after store owner Jim Carlson was convicted on 51 counts in a major synthetic drug case.

The order will become final when Carlson is sentenced. Sentencing has not been scheduled yet.

A U.S. Marshal Service spokesman says that agents were onsite not to remove property but to survey the store and its contents.

Carlson's attorney says he doesn't know details but assumes the agents are there to clear out the building.
