The City of St. Cloud has been tracking COVID-19 levels in the community through wastewater. St. Cloud Public Services Director Tracy Hodel joined me on WJON today. Hodel says St. Cloud provides wastewater services for 5 other cities in the metro area which includes St. Joseph, Sauk Rapids, Sartell, Waite Park, St. Augusta and soon to be Foley.
Foley is moving forward with a plan to send the city's wastewater to St. Cloud. During Tuesday night's meeting, the city council voted four-to-one to install an 11-mile pipe along Highway 23 connecting the two cities.
Wastewater treatment doesn't usually earn headlines, but it's an issue that's cause for concern for tens of thousands of Minnesotans, albeit on a small-city scale.
How is wastewater in Central Minnesota recycled and put back into the Mississippi River? WJON gets a behind the scenes look at the St. Cloud Water Treatment Plant to find out.
