St. Cloud State Economics Professor and Dean, School of Public Affairs King Banaian joined me on WJON this week. Banaian says signs in inflation happening in Central Minnesota include employers being forced to hire workers at a higher wage than they are comfortable with and offering a signing bonus for those people to stay on at least 30 days.

Gas prices have been on the rise lately and St. Cloud State Economist King Banaian joined me on WJON today. He expects gas prices to hit $3.20 a gallon by Labor Day before dropping this fall. Banaian says the demand for travel won't likely subside until after Labor Day which will force this uptick in prices.

He says the national data indicates that the age group of 20-24 is working less than that age group worked in 2019. Banaian says the shortage in workers doesn't appear to be with teenagers as that age group is back working at a similar level to what they worked in 2019.

He says gas prices which are around $1.90 per gallon now will likely stay the same for at least the next couple of months. He expects when the Covid-19 vaccine become more widespread available that the price will likely rise to around $2.20 a gallon.
