Over $1 million is coming from the state to the St. Cloud Area School district for preschool programs this upcoming school year. The District will receive $1,005,160 for an estimated 150 pre-k students.

St. Cloud area voters will be going to the polls again this fall to decide on whether to build a new Tech High School and upgrade Apollo High School. The special election ballot will have two questions.

Funding for the building will be provided by a charge to community education over 20 years for $2 million in revenue. The remaining funding of up to $16 million will come by a lease levy, which will be a tax increase.

A number of under-performing elementary schools in the St. Cloud Area School District are making improvements in reading proficiency, especially among non-English learners. But, those same schools have more work to do.

Funds for a new Tech High School and for updates to Apollo High School will likely return to the ballot for St. Cloud area voters this November. On Thursday, Superintendent Willie Jett proposed a roughly $138 referendum to bring to the ballot this fall.

There are four seats up for election this fall on the St. Cloud Area school board. Just one incumbent has filed for re-election, while three have chosen not to run. Board member Al Dahlgren has filed to retain a seat on the board.

St. Cloud School District Superintendent Willie Jett joined me on WJON today. He discussed a possible new Tech High School, Renovations to Apollo and said that renovated the current Tech building isn't completely off the table.

Around $430,000 in funding for additional preschool programs will be coming to the St. Cloud area school district if Governor Dayton signs a supplemental budget bill. The new preschool sections would be put in at Talahi Community School, Discovery Community School and Westwood Elementary School.
