Camp Ripley

Storms knocked down roofs, trees and damaged vehicles throughout the garrison areas of the National Guard's Camp Ripley Training Center. A damage survey was conducted. It was concluded to be a weak tornado of EF-1 rating.

The third installment of a five piece oil painting set will be unveiled at Camp Ripley tomorrow (Saturday). The 8-foot-by-10-foot painting, which will honor the Coast Guard, will be permanently displayed in Committal Hall at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, next to Camp Ripley.

A new facility to help fire departments learn how to fight an oil train fire is being planned for Camp Ripley. Governor Mark Dayton has included $3.5 million for the project in his bonding proposal. Don Kerr is the Director of Military Affairs for the Minnesota National Guard. He says it would simulate a small town setting.

The public is invited to Camp Ripley's biennial Open House on Sunday.

Camp Ripley will be one of three locations in Minnesota to hold a national exercise to test emergency response procedures.

Role players are need for a training exercise at Camp Ripley. They are recruiting over 40 local residents to participate in a pre-deployment cultural immersion training for the U.S. National Guard. The exercise will take place from May 26th through July 25th.

A large National Guard Training Exercise is set to begin at Camp Ripley in May which will bring over 50 job openings to the area.
